Trying to buy a property on a short sale, and wanted to see if people negotiate\ or have their agent negotiate directly with the bank, . I feel like the listing agent is pulling my chain.

Is there a website\ public records you can go to, to figure out which banks has the mortgage to the property?

Any advice is appreciated.

Any one know how bad a short sale effects your personal credit? I talked with a gentleman who specializes in short sales and says it only effects your credit for about a year and up to 40 points. I have excellent credit, so that doesn’t worry me too much. I’m more worried that he is just telling me this to get my business. Thanks!

Lets say I owe $358. Lets say the bank accepts a short sale of $300. What happens with the remainder of the $58,000? I know I get taxed on it, but I am not responsible to pay that right?

Also, what happens to the equity line that is with it if it is not paid? Do they come after you for what you owe on that?

I am wondering what a “short sale” is on a house…? I am looking to buy and have noticed several properties which note “subject to short sale approval” or “short sale possibility.” Thanks!
